The last prestigious Premier Superseries of the year, China Open 2016 has come to an end. It has been an exciting week with plenty of badminton at its best. Team VICTOR players swept 3 titles of China Open in the Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

Olympic gold medalists Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir proved that they are back in form aft the victory in Rio. They added yet another title to their already heavy backpack of titles. They beat China’s Zhang Nan/Li Yunhui in a tough match 21-13 22-24 21-16. In the semifinal Ahmad/Natsir had a big battle against young Korean pair Choi Solgyu/Chae Yoo Jung. China Open is the 2^nd Super Series title this year for the Indonesian pair.

Team VICTOR Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Markus Fernaldi Gideon also had an excellent week beating Olympic Bronze medalists Chris Langridge/Marcus Ellis, Japanese pair Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi and top seed Hong Wei/Chai Biao to get into the final. In the final they met the experienced Dane Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen who won the last Superseries event in France. Sukamuljo/Gideon played at a very high level making the life hard for the Danes. Sukamuljo/Gideon were crowned as the winner of China Open 2016 with a final win 21-18 22-20. The win is their 3^rd Superseries title this year making them as the couple with most Superseries titles in men’s doubles this year.

World no.6 Chang Ye Na and Lee So Hee won their first title on the Superseries circuit in China. Chang/Lee battled hard and after a 90 minutes fight against Chinese pair Huang Dongping/Li Yinhui they could lift the trophy with final result 13-21 21-14 -21-17. Chang/Lee had played with a great consistency throughout the entire tournament beating top pairs such as compatriot Jung Kyung Eun/Shin Seung Chan and Chinese sisters Luo/Luo.

The Men’s Singles event got an dark horse as a winner, as Denmark’s Jan O Jorgensen was able to battle his way all the way to the top beating Chinese 2^nd seed Chen Long in the final. Before Jorgensen was able to reach the final, he faced another surprise Team VICTOR’s Malaysian player Iskandar Zulkarna in in the semi-final.

Iskandar had a 20-16 lead in the 1^st set, but ended up losing the set 20-22. At 2^nd set he was a step behind Jorgensen being down 13-16, but from that point he was able to turn the situation and clinched the set 22-20. Although Iskandar ended up losing to Jorgensen 20-22 22-20 7-21, it has been a good week for him with his first Superseries semifinal.

Tai Tzu Ying in Women’s Singles was able to reach the semifinal before losing to China’s Sun Yu. Before entering the semifinal, Tai had a strong win in straight games 21-10 22-20 against reigning World & Olympic Champion Carolina Marin from Spain.

The players do not have much time to rest and enjoy their victories. The circuit is moving to Hong Kong Open - the last Superseries event this year, and that also means the last chance to qualify for the Dubai Superseries Finals in December.
